Imagine two identical piles of dirt that must be moved an identical distance. The first person uses a kid’s shovel and bucket and takes all day, while the second person hope in a tractor and finishes the job in just a few minutes.
So… who did more work, the person with the shovel or the person with the tractor?
4 out of 5 people I ask say that the person with the shovel did more work. People make the mistake of defining “work” as effort, but physics sees work as actual results obtained regardless of effort. One person struggled while the other person finished the job with ease… but they both did the same amount of work.
Society conditions us to define work as struggle Society expects us to spend our entire childhoods learning how to spend the rest of our lives making money for other people. If we’re lucky, we may get a few years of leisure before dying. If that is not slavery then I don’t know what is! Even worse, self-employed people who struggle in their network marketing businesses are even more deeply indentured. Working for someone else? Quit whenever you like. Working for yourself? Not that easy to quit, is it?
There are people in the world who seem to succeed at everything they do. Are these people lucky or better or more blessed than everybody else? No. Everybody has the same potential for success, the same chance to accomplish anything they want in life. The key lies in our beliefs. The “real world” we live in is built around our beliefs, nothing more. I’m sure you’ve heard the maxim that 20 people witnessing the same event will provide 20 different accounts.
If you believe that success requires working a job for forty years, then you will get a job. Decades later, you may be able to enjoy a few rounds of golf or a cruise or two before departing this world… if you’re lucky! Live too long and you may exhaust your retirement resources. Die too soon and you’ll leave it all behind. You’ll either die unable to take it with you or live in poverty. Am I the only one who finds this grim fact just a little saddening? And yet that’s what you will do and how you will turn out, if you buy into traditional societal expectations. Because whatever you put energy into, grows.
What about you? If you think that you “work hard” or feel that you can’t or shouldn’t do something because it’s “too hard”, then you define work as effort. Far too many network marketing business owners I meet are struggling just to stay afloat. These unfortunate souls desperately want more from their businesses but dread the thought of thrashing even harder in the murky waters of their own making.
if you or anyone you know is in this trap, then take heart because there is a way out. You can accomplish a lot of work without any struggle at all. Today I am challenging you to stop defining work as effort and embrace the scientific definition of work as output. Quit focusing on the effort and start focusing on the results you want. If you do this, you will start to notice yourself getting more and more done with less and less effort. Never forget that your network marketing business exists to serve your needs; you don’t exist to serve its needs.
All you have to do to start freeing yourself from struggle forever is forget the notion that your current way of doing things is the only way. People resist this because they feel that change equals admitting they’re wrong. Not true. Your current methods have served you well and now you can move on to new methods. The mere fact that your methods and beliefs must evolve or that you need to do things differently does not make you wrong at all. Growth and change are good! Without them, you’d still be using diapers and crawling on the floor. Those behaviors served you well then; they don’t now. Same with your definition of work.
Next, examine your goals and seek the easiest ways to accomplish them. Be creative!!This next step is a lot of fun: Go through your goals one by one and ask yourself how you can accomplish each one with ease. This will require creativity but you will soon find yourself filled with all kinds of ideas. Break your goals up into bite-sized weekly chunks, take action every week, and reward yourself for each small step. This helps you take joy from the journey. After all, what is life but a journey?
Think this exercise will only yield moderate gains? Think again! One client of mine tripled her profits while working half as many hours. She effectively boosted her hourly rate by six times…. And her story is anything but exceptional. I’ve seen similar results again and again.
Define work as results and seek ways to obtain the results you want with ease and you’ll soon be struggling a lot less while reaping far more abundant results from your network marketing business and enjoying life’s journey far more. That’s a promise.
